“After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents Tell me why I couldn’t make my film… downsize-down scale -think smaller-they say. I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged,” she began the caption of her IG post, set to her 2003 track “Hollywood.”

“No easy rides for me,” Madonna continued. “I guess I should be grateful.. It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way.”

Initially announced in 2020, with Diablo Cody at the helm, Madonna’s biopic was set to delve into her life and career. By 2022, Diablo was out and Inventing Anna actress Julia Garner was rumored to have been offered the role of portraying the Material Girl. Shortly after that. Madge revealed she planned to write and direct the biopic herself. However, by 2023, the biopic plans were reportedly put on hold by Universal Pictures for Madonna to focus on her global Celebration Tour. Then in July 2024, Madonna shared that the biopic was not only back in the works, but it also had a title — Who’s That Girl.

In her latest update, shared alongside a carousel of photos featuring her with friends including designer Willy Chavarria, multimedia artist Jess Cuevas and artist Nadia Lee Cohen. Madonna’s message went on to note, "Spending time with my creative friends was just the fuel I needed to keep going! We all agreed that we need to be even more fearless!!! Art =Survival.”

“We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life— the whole universe will conspire to hel you get it. Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature Film. 🤷🏼‍♀️,” she asked, concluding, “Think before you answer !!”

Thus far the responses seem to be supportive either way. Divided between those who feel the project should remain a film and the majority who are excitedly intrigued to see Madonna’s life story play out in a series.

“I don’t think one film could begin to sum up the totality of your life and impact…,” one fan replied. Another suggesting, “a series with four seasons: 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s-20s…”

Even Madge’s longtime friend, and supposed featured character,  Debi Mazar, weighed in, suggesting a third option. “I think a film or series would be amazing ..but [what] about the book 1st? Then no one can get it wrong?,” she wrote in the comments.

What are your thoughts? And don’t forget “Think before you answer !!”
