Soleil Moon Frye reacts as 'Punky Brewster' sequel is canceled after one season

Punky Power isn’t able to save “Punky Brewster” this time around.

Peacock is saying goodbye to the “Punky Brewster" revival.

The sequel to the 1984 sitcom was canceled after just one season," Deadline reported.

Soleil Moon Frye reprised the beloved titular character in the follow-up, which premiered in February.

The series was among the first originals for the streaming service alongside the “Saved By the Bell” revival, which has already been renewed.

Two more original comedies, “Rutherfold Falls” and “Girls5Eva,” have also snagged a renewal.

Frye took to Instagram to comment on the cancelation, writing: "We just got the news yesterday that they made the hard decision to not pick up our Punky for another season. I am so grateful for your constant love and support. I am feeling so many feels about what to say to all of our friends, family, and fans that have supported us."

"The best way I can put this experience is that it has felt like lightning in a bottle, a comet of joy, heart and love that I will hold closest to my heart forever and always. You helped me find my inner strength and Punky Power once again," she continued.

'"Punky Brewster" was a beloved series that tackled meaningful storylines with so much heart," Lisa Katz, President, Scripted, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, began.

"It was a bright light for so many viewers and we are forever grateful to Universal Studio Group, the producers, the cast and crew and especially to Soleil Moon Frye for reigniting the Punky Power within everyone,” she added.

Frye reprised the pop culture icon for one season and was joined by Cherie Johnson, who reprised her role as Punky’s best friend.

Quinn Copeland (Izzy), Lauren Donzis (Hannah), Oliver De Los Santos (Daniel), Noah Cottrell (Diego), and Freddie Prinze Jr. (Punky’s ex-husband, Travis) also starred.

Frye also served as executive producer.

In the update, Punky grew up to be a photographer and mother of three adapting to her newly single life following her divorce.

Upon meeting a young orphan named Izzy, she decided to have her move in with her family, while her best friend Cherie attempted to find the orphan a permanent home

The original aired for two seasons on NBC before going on for two more in syndication. It’s final episode aired in May 1988.
