“IX Cup” Championship Weekend - Women’s National Football Conference

For the first time, North Texas (UNT) will host the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC) Championship Game on Saturday, Aug. 7. But even before the current reigning champion Texas Elite Spartans host the newly crowned Pacific Conference Champion San Diego Rebellion, the DFW metroplex will buzz with a whole weekend’s worth of activities. WNFC organizers are hosting three days of festivities for fans from Friday (Aug 6) to Sunday (Aug 8).

The event has evolved into a major sporting event celebrating women and girls in sports. Events include a free interactive fan fest, a tailgating experience, youth-girls flag games, all-pro games (top 100 players), and more.

BvB Dallas Powder-Puff Football Game

BvB Dallas is a non-profit organization that brings young-professionals together to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease research and support organizations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  This is the 14th year of their BvB Football Game. They had to take the year off last summer due to the pandemic...but the Blue Crew & Team Blitz will line up against each other again for bragging rights on Saturday.

No matter who wins, there will be an after-party right after the game.

"Buddha, Shiva, Lotus, Dragon" at Kimbell Art Museum

This exhibition showcases the extraordinary range of bronzes, ceramics and metalwork that John D. Rockefeller III and his wife, Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller, thoughtfully assembled between the 1940s and the 1970s. Highlights including spectacular Chinese vases, dynamic Indian Chola bronzes and exquisite Southeast Asian sculptures, the exhibition reveals great achievements in Asian art spanning more than two millennia.

Dallas Arboretum’s Summer of Sculpture: ZimSculpt

The Dallas Arboretum presents the return of the international blockbuster exhibit ZimSculpt, a world-renowned collection of hand-selected, modern Zimbabwean stone sculptures. ZimSculpt features the talent of several contemporary Zimbabwean artists with more than 100 hand-selected, exquisite sculptures artfully displayed throughout the garden. These contemporary pieces, created by the Shona people of Zimbabwe, are carved from various types of serpentine and semi-precious stone, often weighing tons, and can be as large as seven feet tall.

And remember, the arboretum’s Cool Thursday Concert Series is back every Thursday night during the warm weather months. Bands perform on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn overlooking White Rock Lake.

George W. Bush Presidential Center: Out of Many, One

The George W. Bush Presidential Center has opened an exhibit called, "Out of Many, One: Portraits of America's Immigrants." The exhibit includes 43 portraits painted by George W. Bush, statistics about immigration and policy recommendations. Out of Many, One includes paintings of celebrities like Dirk Nowitzki, Henry Kissinger and Madeleine Albright and lesser known immigrants who may know the former president personally. Included with the paintings are stories about how each person adjusted to life in America.

If/Then She Can Exhibit at Northpark Centre

The exhibit, sponsored by Lyda Hill Philanthropies, stands outside Northpark Centre in the CenterPark Garden. It’s a monumental exhibit of the most women statues ever assembled in one location. This first-of-its-kind, life-sized statue exhibit of more than 120 Ambassadors hailing from more than 40 states is free to the public. All these women are in STEM careers. Visitors can scan a QR code to learn about each one of the unique contributors. The exhibit is sure to be inspirational to young women and men alike.

Immersive Van Gogh

The highly-anticipated Immersive Van Gogh experience opens this weekend. It’s 500,000 cubic feet of monumental projections animating Vincent van Gogh’s oeuvre. Wander through entrancing, moving images that highlight brushstrokes, detail, and color – truly illuminating the mind of the genius.

You will be immersed in Van Gogh’s works – from his sunny landscapes and night scenes to his portraits and still life paintings. The installation includes the Mangeurs de pommes de terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885), the Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889), and so much more.

Jurassic World: The Exhibition

Mini Movement Fest

Mini Movement Fest is a day of dance workshops, finishing with a concert on Saturday evening. The workshops are led by both local and visiting festival artists and open to participants of all experience levels high school age and older. Wally Funk Community Celebration Parade

The City of Grapevine will honor resident and hometown hero, Wally Funk, for her history-making experience aboard Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin New Shepard suborbital space tourism rocket on July 20.

Funk has been a pioneer in aerospace and trailblazer for women in aviation and space flight since 1960.

The parade along Historic Main Street will begin at Noon and travel from Wall Street to Peace Plaza at Grapevine Main Station, 815 S. Main St.
