12/16/2020Dear Johnny,My name is Eric and I am with Shelter KC, a Kansas CityRescue Mission. We are preparing for a COVID safecelebration of Christmas for Kansas City’s neediest residentson December 23. And we need the public’s help. Thosewithout a place to call home cannot spend a quiet Christmasat home. So, we are working to provide them with a specialholiday meal here. We also give a gift to each homelessguest, packages have some practical items that will helpthem survive. The idea is to share the hope of the seasonwith those who may feel alone. The list is very practical.Adult toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash, deodorant, lip balm, razors, body lotion, knit hats, gloves, socks and aChristmas card (cost around $25 each). Shelter KC plans todistribute at least 300 gift bags in specially designed stringbags. This is where we need help. We are a week away fromthe event and have around 200 gift bags and still need 100more so we can make sure every person gets one. Therewill also be a holiday meal provided in a dining areadesigned for social distancing. This will be held at theTruman EventCenter, which is across the street from Shelter KC. It is veryimportant so that nobody feels forgotten during this verydifficult time. Shelter KC is a Ministry offering freedom andhope to the poor and homeless for over 70 years. (We havegotten permission from the KC health Dept. to have thisevent.) A big thank you for any help you and your listenerscould provide.– Eric Burger, Executive Director
