UPDATE: Fire fighters are still working to extinguish the fire at the Peeler Rug building. So far, according to Fire Chief Billy Bishop, nearly 1.2 million gallons of water has been used. DHEC is on call to monitor air quality. At this time it is deemed safe.
Early this morning in Cherokee County, Firefighters were called to a massive fire at the old Peeler Rug Building on Champion Ferry Road.
Chief Billy Bishop reported the fire began around 3:40am Thursday. The building was filled with plastic parts for vehicles.
DHEC was called in concerning air quality from the burning plastic and has deemed air quality safe.
The fire destroyed antique vehicles housed in the building.
