Collision Shuts Down 85SB

The Highway Patrol investigated a fatal collision on 85 southbound in Greenville County near the Pelham Road exit Friday morning. 

The collision, involving a double tractor trailer and two other vehicles, occured around 8:20 this morning blocking all three southbound lanes of 85 southbound for over an hour. 

At least one lane had been opened to traffic just after 10AM.  No other details have been released. 

The Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Coroner's Office are investigating.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office issued the following press release Friday morning:

The Greenville County Coroner's Office and S.C. Highway Patrol responded to a three vehicle collision on Interstate I85 Southbound just before the Pelham Road exit. 
The collision involved two vehicles and an 18-wheeler. One person involved in the collision was pronounced dead on scene by Greenville County EMS. 
An external examination will be performed on Friday 5/24/19 to determine the cause and manner of death. 
This incident is still under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Coroner's Office. 

No information regarding the victim has been released.
