The Greenville County Sheriff's Office issued the following press release Saturday:
Deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting that reportedly occurred on Chipwood Lane, near Edwards Road, in Greenville.
Deputies responded this afternoon, at around 2:30pm, and located an adult-male victim who suffered at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Investigators are continuing to work on gathering leads but at this time have learned that just prior to the shooting the victim approached a vehicle, described as a silver, 4-door sedan, occupied by 2 black males.
After some sort of exchange the victim was shot and the suspects fled the area in the vehicle. Deputies have learned that the victim and at least one of the suspect’s were familiar with each other and we are continuing to work on gathering information regarding their identities.
The gunshot victim from this afternoon, who was found near Chipwood Lane and Edwards Road has passed away at the hospital. A death investigation is underway and we ask for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers of Greenville at 23-CRIME.
