Two people are behind bars today after being charged with neglect of a vulnerable adult.
The Special Victims Unit began an investigation on January 16, 2019, at a Hannon Rd. residence in regard to the welfare of a 92 year old male.
An anonymous caller had informed deputies that the victim wasn’t being properly cared for and provided information that deputies were able to verify once they were on the scene.
The deputies had to enlist the aid of a local fire department to gain access to victim’s home, since the victim’s son and daughter in-law would lock him inside the residence when they left.
The deputies placed the victim into emergency protective custody, had EMS transport him to a local hospital for an evaluation, and also notified the Adult Protective Service Unit of the Department of Social Services.
An investigator attempted to interview the victim’s son and daughter in-law, but they retained an attorney and declined all interview requests.
The suspects, Melvin L. Jeffords, Jr and Linda J. Jeffords, faced a magistrate on Wednesday.
The victim is now medically stable and remains in DSS custody.
