A man serving a life sentence for a 1999 murder at a Myrtle Beach motel has died at Perry Correctional Institution.
Carl Andrew Pollen Jr. was injured in his cell during a fight with a fellow inmate early Monday morning. Pollen died from his injuries about an hour later. The Department of Corrections and SLED are investigating the death which has been ruled a homicide.
The Greenville County Coroner's Office issued the following press release Monday regarding Pollen's death:
(The) Coroner's Office responded to Perry Correctional Institute on April 29, 2019 at approximately 02:45 a.m. for a deceased person.
The decedent was identified as Carl Andrew Pollen, Jr. An autopsy was ordered and performed on April 29, 2019.
The cause of death is due to blunt force head trauma. The manner of death is homicide.
This case remains under investigation by the Department of Corrections Division of Police Services and the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
