The Anderson County Sheriff's Office issued the following press release Satuday afternoon:

A K9 was injured this week during a training scenario. The K9 bit the handler, who then responded by using corrective measures, not in line with general practices.

The K9 was immediately transported to a veterinarian for care. The K9 was treated and released and has since been placed in the care of our K9 Unit.

The deputy was placed on administrative leave while the office launched an internal affairs investigation. Since launching the investigation, the officer resigned.

This internal affairs investigation is still ongoing and the K9 is expected to make a full recovery.
