The suspended Greenville County Sherriff is asking for his criminal indictments to be thrown out.

The attorney for suspended Greenville County Sheriff Will Lewis filed motions on Friday to quash indictments of misconduct in office and obstruction of justice.

“Quash,” by the way, isn’t just a fun synonym for dismiss. It’s a legal term that asks courts to essentially rule that the charges were invalid to begin with.

His lawyer says the initial charges of misconduct were “overly broad” and as for the obstruction of justice, Lewis’s lawyer argues those are too vague to even determine what he’d allegedly committed.

The attorney added that he wouldn’t even know how to proceed with preparing for a trial.

Lewis was initially suspended after allegations that stemmed from a sexual harassment and assault allegation from a former assistant.

Lewis insists the extramarital encounter was consensual.
