It was a special day today at Greenville's Washington Center School. School officials cut the ribbon today on its brand new nature trail.

From Washington Center's Facebook page The trail is unque to Greenville County, much like Washington Center School. That's because it is the only trail built intentionally for people with profound disabilities. It is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act with railings and accessible pathways so all students will be able to get exercise and fresh air. It is being shared with nearby Sara Collins Elementary. It is also open for the public to use after school hours.

The trail is paved concrete that is wide enough to accomodate two wheelchairs side by side. The exercise and fresh air is designed to hopefully improve students health, both physical and mental.
From Washington Center's Facebook page Over half of students that attend Washington Center School are wheelchair bound. Nearly all of them are nonverbal. Many suffer from seizures. This trail will be able to be used by these students, teachers and aides.
