The co-owners of the craft beer and wine bar The Whale look like they’d be a lot more at home in Ashville, out of which The Whale is based, than they would in Greenville.
Not that Greenville is stuffy or anything, but with Jesse Van Note’s extensive tattoos and tenure as a heavy metal bassist, and his co-owner Andrew Ross’s waist-long dreadlocks, they have a certain style.
All the same, the duo plan to bring that unique style to Greenville’s West End, where they’ve just signed a lease for the 2400 square foot space at 1108 S. Main Street in the Greene Apartments near Flour Field.
Construction will start soon, and The Whale Greenville should open its doors in early summer with 20 draft beers, 200 bottles, wine, saki, mead and charctuerie and sandwiches.
The owners said the GVL location won't just be a copy-paste of the Ashville location. Instead of a dark, tavern-like atomosphere, the Greenville location will have high ceilings and large windows, with a more upscale vibe.
