The South Carolina Highway Patrol has just announced that it is adding two new helicopters to its fleet.
The main reason?
To keep troopers safer.
Going on high speed pursuits is among the most dangerous elements of the job, and Captain RK Hughes says adding two more copters to the current four will be put to life-saving use.
Split between the four helicopters currently used by the Highway Aviation program, 760 missions are conducted each year.
Hughes says the helicopters aren’t just meant to keep troopers safe, but also to make things safer for regular commuters to make sure warnings are sent forth, to deliver supplies to those in need during severe storms, and even rescue missions.
No word yet on when the new helicopters will be added to the fleet.
