Lt. Governor Pamela Evette held a press conference Wednesday issuing the “2020 Census Day of Action Challenge”.

The challenge was issued with the goal of having at least 10,000 South Carolina households complete the census by the end of the day Wednesday.

“The census department tells us that those numbers were undercounted in 2010,” said Lt. Governor Evette.

The census count is important for acquiring and allocating funding for schools, healthcare, disaster response, and dozens of other federal programs in the state for the next 10 years.

“The one thing we have to stress is that the census only happens once every ten years, so we do not get a second chance,” said Lt. Governor Evette. “We will be living with the consequences of these numbers for the next 10 years, especially when we are making important changes in our state with broadband, roads, schools, and healthcare.”

The census can be completed in less than ten minutes online, by calling 1-844-330-2020, or by mailing your household’s census information in.

The last day for census self-response is October 31, but the Lt. Governor is urging families not to wait.
