A suspect in the murder of an 89 year old Liberty woman is behind bars.
Liberty Police responded to a home on Mills Avenue Easter Sunday where they found Margaret Alice Karr's body.
The 89 year old was sexually assaulted, strangled and her throat cut according to warrants.
While canvasing the neighborhood, Investigators identified Thomas James Chapman as a possible suspect.
Chapman was arrested Monday, April 13th.
Officers believe Chapman broke into Karr's home, murdered her and stole money.
He is being held in the Pickens County Detention Center, a bond hearing is set for 9:00am Tuesday.
Chapman is charged with Murder, Burglary 1st Degree, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, Petit Larceny, Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree, Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, and Burglary 1st Degree.
A news conference is scheduled for 1pm today, Tuesday April 14th.
SLED and and the Pickens County Sheriff's Office helped in the investigation.
