The AccelerateED task force held an online meeting Friday discussing the roughly 200-page plan drafted for the reopening of South Carolina schools.
The task force released the drafted plans to the public earlier this week and received feedback that was taken into consideration and discussed at Friday’s meeting.
“Very few states have been as transparent as we have in this process,” said chairman Dr. Kathy Coleman in reference to the public meetings and public feedback on plans.

Task force members spent the duration of the meeting discussing the feedback received and offered several revisions to different parts of the drafted plan.
Superintendent Molly Spearman also expressed her concerns surround COVID-19 when students return to schools.
“If we want to keep schools open, if we want to get back to a more normal life, we have to maintain social distancing, and we have to wear masks when we’re out in public,” Spearman said. She continued that people are not wearing masks to the degree they should and that teachers, school administrators, and parents all need to set the example for students by wearing masks when out in public.
The public feedback and discussion of the task force from the meeting are all being taken as a final draft of the plan is created by the end of next week.
