Five people with the Greenville County Detention Center have tested positive for COVID-19: two inmates and three staff.

John Vandermosten, the Assistant County Administrator with Greenville County Department of Public Safety, released the below message regarding COVID-19 testing policies at the detention center.

There has always been a protocol in place to address the health of incoming detainees.
Those protocols continue with extra attention given to potential symptoms of Covid-19.
All incoming detainees are screened upon being presented by Law Enforcement into the Detention Center.
These screenings include the detainee having their temperature checked as well as a series of questions.
The detainee is then placed in a mask and booked into the Detention Center.
After the booking process is complete the detainee is sent to a separate observation housing unit for 14 days.
At the conclusion of 14 days of observation with no symptoms of COVID-19 the detainee is moved to general population.
At any time a detainee show signs or symptoms of COVID-19 they are immediately placed alone in isolation.
We have testing readily available through an outside contract service for anyone with symptoms.
We have had two inmates test positive and those cases were/are being dealt with appropriately.
There have been three staff members test positive.
Any current inmates with symptoms are cared for with the same protocol.
All inmates are supplied with masks and extra cleaning supplies.
There are additional cleaning protocols in place as well.
