Four Killed

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports four people were killed in a head on collision in Greenville County Friday afternoon.

Master Trooper Joe Hovis says the collision occurred around 5:10PM Friday on SC 14 near Cannon Road approximately three miles west of Greer.

The driver of a 2006 Ford SUV crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Saturn SUV head on.  All four occupants of the Saturn had to be mechanically extracted from the vehicle and died at the scene.

It is unknown if any of the occupants of the Saturn were wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the Ford, was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to a Prisma Health hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Trooper Hovis said the SC Highway Patrol Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is still investigating the collision.

Later Saturday the SC Highway Patrol issued an update.

Richard Shane Plowden of Taylors, the driver of the Ford SUV, has been charged with four counts of DUI involving death.  He was being held in the Greenville County Detention Center pending a bound hearing. 

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the victims in the Saturn SUV as Michael B. Cook 83 of Greenville, Nancy B. Cook 80 of Greenville, William J. Norman 92 of Taylors and Marsha Norman 83 of Taylors.  All four died of their injuries at the scene.
