Seneca, SC - Prisma Health Lila Doyle will throw a Family and Friends Parade for its residents on Friday, May 15.

As many as 50 residents are expected to attend the celebration, with the parade also featuring firetrucks, law enforcement vehicles and EMS.

The parade will be 2-4 p.m. and loop in front of Lila Doyle and through its adjacent parking lot. Residents will be seated at six-foot intervals along the parade route.

“Most of these residents have not seen family members in more than two months because of necessary COVID-19 visitor restrictions, so this will be an opportunity to provide a safe environment where family members and residents can connect during these challenging times," said Phyllis Seawright, administrator.

“We’ve worked hard to provide our residents with ‘nearly-there’ time with their loved ones, whether it’s by having window-side chats or visiting virtually with Ipads or phones,” said Seawright. “But we thought a parade would be a particularly great way for them to reconnect with their families. We are excited to provide this opportunity.”

Family members and friends are encouraged to decorate their cars as part of the parade.

Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles at all times while taking part.

Because of potential over-crowding concerns, only families and friends are allowed to participate in the parade.

The parade is the capstone event for Lila Doyle’s observation of National Nursing Home Week, with other events including “beach” days with wading pools, buckets of sand and virgin frozen pina coladas, “Ghostbusters” viewing with Slimer-inspired green popcorn and a fancy dinner night with nursing managers serving as wait staff.

“The delivery of healthcare has adapted in recent months, and this is no different in the long-term care setting,” said Cole Brown, administrator of post-acute operations for Prisma Health. “Lila Doyle is a resident’s home, and we must continue to pursue unique ways to provide engaging options for them while we continue to abide by social distancing guidelines and necessary safety precautions.”

“Our residents mean the world to us here at Lila Doyle, and they become a part of our family,” said Brown. “We recognize that these are challenging times, but here at Prisma Health Lila Doyle we are committed to Inspiring Health, Serving with Compassion, and being the Difference for our residents and family members in times of need.”
