The Greenville County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) today held a press conference about its report for FY2019.
Solicitor Walt Wilkins said approximately a year and a half ago, authorities came together to figure out how to tackle drug trafficking.
"We all realized the impact that drug trafficking has on our communities is so expansive. It bleeds into all aspects of life. Drug trafficking creates violence among drug traffickers. It creates addiction among individuals, imposing health risks in our community, and it bleeds into our children as well," Wilkins said.
At the time drug trafficking in the area was at an all time high, indicated by the low prices of drugs, according to Solicitor Wilkins.
He also reported the DEU has been even more effective than expected, arresting over 135 people in one year and capturing copious amounts of various drugs.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis said many of the investigations were assisted by tips from the community and encouraged the public to continue to come forward with information.
