This afternoon Dr. Burke Royster, Superintendent of Greenville County Schools, sat down with Tim Waller, GCS Director of Media Relations, to review questions about the upcoming return to school.

Dr. Royster said he is pleased with the progress of their plan, although they are constantly seeking opportunities to improve.

He further said that since COVID-19 creates a constantly changing environment the GCS plan will also constantly evolve to suit the needs of the community.

Dr. Royster also clarified that GCS looks forward to the day that students can attend school in person all 5 days of the school week, but that it must be pushed back until it is safe to do so.

While children statistically are less likely to experience severe effects of COVID-19, Dr. Royster pointed that "less likely" does not equate to "all cases."

Aside from that, he said students aren't the only people GCS has in mind when creating their plans.

The safety of faculty and staff is also a major portion of creating safety standards.
