Vice President Mike Pence joined Governor Henry McMaster for a press conference Tuesday afternoon discussing South Carolina’s coronavirus response.
The Vice President began the press conference by congratulating Governor McMaster for South Carolina’s coronavirus response and the economic recovery since the shutdown earlier in the pandemic.
“We are with you, and we are going to work closely with your governor and with all your state health officials,” Pence said, “to make sure the people of this state have the testing, the personal protective equipment, the therapeutics, and all the supplies to meet this moment.”
He also stated that he and the Trump administration believe schools in South Carolina, and across the country, should be reopened this fall for both educational and economic reasons.
Anderson school district five Superintendent Tom Wilson also spoke on reopening schools during the press conference. He said that his district with be offering both in-person and online learning for students and that many other schools districts are doing similar things.
He said parents will have the choice between those two options when school returns, and he added that an initial survey showed roughly twenty percent of parents would likely choose the online option for their children.
