The City of Greenville and health officials are cautiously optimistic as COVID-19 numbers have remained fairly steady and the state slowly begins to reopen.

More restaurants and parks in Greenville are opening but in a phased approached.  


"Taking this in phases is extremely important", Mayor Knox White said.​At today's press conference, Mayor White announced Falls Park and Cancer Survivors Park will open at 6 AM on Saturday, May 9th.  

Liberty Bridge will remain closed as it is impossible to social distance in the tight space.

Benches and swings at the park are closed since cleaning cannot be ensured between users

All  of Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville open; however, people are required to keep moving with no stopping or gathering.  

Swamp Rabbit Trail through Cleveland Park will be open but vehicular traffic will not be allowed; Cleveland Park itself will not officially open.

Saturday and Sunday closure of parking spots on one side of Main between Washington and McBee and along bridge over Reedy River for a makeshift expanded pedestrian sidewalk.

As the openings roll out, officials urged social distancing, washing hands frequently, and wearing masks in public.

"If we don't do our part, we could find ourselves taking a step backwards," White said.

Dr. Marcus Blackstone, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System emphasized the important of wearing a mask.

"We know this is a disease spread by droplets," Dr. Blackstone said.  

He provided an example of how wearing a mask protects yourself and others around you.

"It goes both ways.  If you have mask on near somebody who doesn't have a mask and coughs or sneezes, your chance of inhaling that goes down significantly," Dr. Blackstone said.
