Greenville Girl May Name Next Mars Rover

Greenville 4th-grader Serafina D'Amico was named a finalist Tuesday in the "Name the Rover Challenge" being put on by NASA and FutureEngineers.com to name the next Mars Rover.

Her entry name is "Cyano", which comes from "Cyanobacteria". In her entry, she wrote that she chose this name because "Cyanobacteria is algae that can make a big change. Cyanobacteria made the first oxygen on Earth. The Mars 2020 rover will hope to create oxygen on Mars, changing space exploration forever."

An interview with her and other finalists will happen on February 7th, and the winner will be announced February 18th.

The winner of the competition and up to four family members will be invited to NASA to watch the launch of the Mars 2020 rover at the Kennedy Space Center in July.
