He said his faith is what prompted him to run for the position.

The seat is currently occupied by Republican Scott Talley

The primary will take place on June 9th.

Following the event, his team sent out this press release.

Upstate businessman and conservative Republican activist Mark Lynch kicked-off his campaign for the Republican nomination for State Senate today.  Joined by his wife and family before a large crowd of supporters, Lynch vowed to follow President Donald Trump's lead and drain the swamp in Columbia.
Immediately following the event, Lynch issued the following statement:
Today, I come before you to announce my candidacy for the South Carolina State Senate.
This will be a campaign for the future.
Engergized with the strong support I have already received from people in the community, I am prepared to work as hard as necessary to get the job done.
As a father and businessman, I look forward to the opportunity to go to Columbia to fight for our local values and to work with other conservatives to make needed changes so that South Carolina can be the best place possible to live, work, and raise a family.
Already, I have had the opportunity to talk to many voters in this area.
They are excited about having a Senator who is focused on making a positive difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors not on furthering political ambition or cozying up to the establishment.
While there is no doubt that lately political campaigns have become expensive and very negative, my promise to the voters is that I will run a clean, honest, and positive campaign focused on the issues that are important to the people of our district.
Greenville and Spartanburg are the bedrock of conservatism in South Carolina, and we ought to have the most conservative representation in Columbia.
It is more important than ever that we send a representative to Columbia who will fight for our conservative principles and local values.
As a businessman, I look at my company's books every day to be sure our expenses are in-line.
As our State Senator, I will bring that same scrutiny to state government.
Voters can be sure of my commitment to supporting core Republican values.
I am unreservedly pro-life and strong defender of our Second Amendment rights under the Constitution.
