Governor Henry McMaster held a press conference Monday afternoon to update the public on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to the early morning storm in Seneca.
“There were trees lying all over the place and housing knocked down and some gone,” Governor McMaster said, recounting the destruction from the storm. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anything quite like it, and I’ve seen a lot of hurricanes and a few tornadoes.”

McMaster said the damage is being assessed in case a declaration of emergency needs to be made and to assess the financial impact of the storm.
“Everything was smashed but the spirit of the people,” the governor said.
Additionally, McMaster said the $600 COVID relief funds to those who qualify for unemployment should be coming directly to individuals soon if they haven’t already.
All of this as over 100 new cases and 5 new deaths from the COVID-19 are reported in South Carolina. This brings the total cases in the state to 3,439 and the total number of deaths to 87.
