Mumps in SC

Officials have confirmed seven more cases of Mumps, bringing the total number to 18 in the State. 

The Department of Health and Environmental Control reported the first confirmed case of the virus September 17th. 

News outlets report these new cases were confirmed Thursday at the College of Charleston. College spokesman Mark Berry says the college will operate normally.

According to Clemson University's "The Newsstand" website, a confirmed case of campus mumps was received  October 25th. The University is working with DHEC to identify and address any risk of transmission.

DHEC does advise to take these precautionary measures: wash hands frequently, cover your mouth, avoid sharing food and drink and avoid any activities that may result in saliva exposure.

News outlets report the new cases of the viral disease at the College of Charleston were confirmed Thursday. College spokesman Mark Berry says the college will operate normally "regardless of the number of positive mumps cases." The Department of Health and Environmental Control said the first case was confirmed on Sept. 17.
