The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens today of the free prescription delivery initiative for Oconee County citizens that began yesterday for citizens who meet the following criteria:

·     Any Oconee County citizen age 60 or older

·     Any Oconee County citizen, regardless of age, who is taking chemotherapy or cancer treatments

·     Any Oconee County citizen, regardless of age, who is quarantined due to COVID-19

“We began this initiative in the hopes of protecting our most vulnerable citizens due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the current mitigation efforts that are in place,” says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.  “However, with the devastation that our county suffered yesterday due to the early Monday morning tornado, it may be difficult for those citizens who live in these areas, and meet the criteria, from obtaining their medications due to travel conditions as well as the damage and restoration cleanup.  Regardless of which reason, we are offering this service to our citizens to eliminate any worries of how they might be able to receive their medication.”

Sheriff Crenshaw says that all pharmacies in the county, with the exception of the Walmart pharmacy in Seneca and Seneca Pharmacy, are participating in this program.

The Walmart pharmacy will not be able to participate in the initiative due to corporate regulations, according to Sheriff Crenshaw.

Seneca Pharmacy will not be able to participate due to regulations of not being a pharmacy set up for delivery.

Listed below are some guidelines regarding Prescription Medication Delivery and Pharmacy Guidelines as well:

As it relates to the clean-up from Monday morning’s tornado in regards to allowing crews to safely clear any roadways from debris and to help power crews restore electricity more efficiently, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office will be blocking off roadways entering the Utica Mill Hill area near Seneca up through around mid-evening today.

Residents who live in those areas will have to show proof of residency in order to enter this area of the county.

Deputies are also on routine patrol, not only to answer calls for service, but to help block roads temporarily to assist power crews as they continue to restore electricity in the affected areas.

The Sheriff’s Office dispatch is fully staffed and stands ready to receive and dispatch calls for service, according to Sheriff Crenshaw.
