The driver of a 2011 Toyota Prius was killed in a head on collision on Highway 123 Sunday night 3 miles outside of Easley. Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with the South Carolina Highway Patrol reports the crash, involving 3 vehicles, happened around 10:45pm near Highway 124 when the driver of a 2006 Nissan Xterra was traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 123. There was one passenger in the vehicle.
Master Trooper Bolt says a 2015 Kia Soul and the Toyota Prius were traveling south on Highway 123 while the Nissan Xterra was traveling north in the southbound lanes.
The driver, and sole occupant, of the Kia swerved to miss hitting the Nissan and ran off the roadway into a guardrail.
The Toyota was hit head on. The driver of the Toyota was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
Both occupants of the Nissan were transported to the hospital for injuries.
The driver of the Kia was also transported to the hospital with injuries.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.
As of right now, there are no details as to how or why the Nissan was traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 123.
