(GREENVILLE) To help ensure that everyone has a safe holiday season, the Greenville Police Department is takingsteps to ease traffic congestion on busy commercial corridors like Woodruff Road and offering tips on ways shopperscan avoid becoming victims.Beginning Black Friday weekend, GPD officers will be monitoring key intersections for traffic concerns andmaintaining high visibility in popular retail districts. Electronic message boards have been placed on Woodruff Road,Verdae Boulevard and Roper Mountain Road to advise drivers to use Parallel Parkway, which runs from VerdaeBoulevard to Woodruff Industrial Lane, to access the Magnolia Park, Target and Academy Sports shopping centers.Additionally, to prevent left turns and cross traffic, water barricades have been placed on Woodruff Industrial Lanenear its intersection with Woodruff Road.Drivers can assist in these efforts by being patient and following all traffic laws. To avoid unnecessary collisions andinjuries: Don’t block intersections Don’t drive aggressively Drive at a safe speed Plan your route before heading to your destination Don’t drive distracted Be patientIn addition to driving safely, it is also important to be cautious and alert while shopping. Below are some safety tipsfor shoppers: Have a shopping plan; let someone know what it is and when you intend to be home Coordinate shopping trips with friends and family When possible, park in a well-lit area and avoid walking to your car alone Lock your car and remember where you parked it When you return to your vehicle, don’t loiter about holding packages Never leave your car unoccupied with the engine running Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and be mindful of your wallet/purse Ask a trusted neighbor to watch your house and do not have packages delivered to your residence if you plan to be away Report suspicious activity
