The City of Simpsonville will be modifying City services and activities to protect its citizens in the prevention of the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
We will continually evaluate the situation and make changes as needed.
Following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and S.C. Department of Health & Environmental Control on social distancing and other measures being taken nationwide, the City will adhere to the following protocols:
• Access to public buildings will be restricted. There will be NO public access to the following buildings and parks: Activity & Senior Center CentrePlex at Heritage Park Alder, City, Heritage and College Street parks The Dog Spot All fire stations, including the administration building Public Works offices
• Municipal Court is canceled. The public is directed NOT to come to City Hall to inquire about court appearances. Only phone calls and emails will be accepted. • City Hall has been closed to the public. Staff will continue working and may be reached at 864-967-9526. • Simpsonville City Council will conduct one business meeting per month in an effort to follow the guidelines by the White House to limit gatherings to no more than 10 people and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to practice social distancing. By ordinance, the meeting is the second Tuesday of each month. Council will meet on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. via teleconference. The public is encouraged to listen to audio of the meetings uploaded to www.simpsonville.com. Committee of the Whole meetings have been canceled until further notice.
• The Simpsonville Police Department will remain open during normal business hours; however, all non-emergency reports will only be taken by phone to minimize contact. Again, the public is asked to please adhere to CDC recommendations by only entering the building if absolutely necessary.
Parks & Rec closes Activity Center, parksSports are postponed, events canceledIn the interest of public health regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID – 19), the City of Simpsonville is closing the Activity & Senior Center effective noon on March 16 until April 19, upon which the City will reevaluate conditions.
All activities at the Center are canceled.
At the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to cancel or postpone in-person events of 50 people or more, the City of Simpsonville is taking the additional following steps to be proactive in the face of this global pandemic: • All spring sports—including baseball, softball, flag football and volleyball, are postponed until April 20. The postponement includes practices. • All parks are closed, which includes Alder, City, College Street and Heritage parks and The Dog Spot, until further notice.• The Simpsonville Athletic Office at Heritage Park is closed to the public effective 5 p.m. on March 16 until April 19. Staff at the Athletic Office can be reached by calling 864-228-0022 Monday-Friday at 12-5 p.m. • The alleyway restrooms on South Main Street are closed until further notice.• Heritage Park Railway will be closed until further notice. STATEMENT ON COVID-19
The City of Simpsonville is taking seriously Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID – 19), which the World Health Organization has named a global pandemic.
While proactive measures like closing the Activity & Senior Center, postponing sports and cancelling events may be temporarily inconvenient, the City of Simpsonville’s top priority is the well-being of the public, especially our most vulnerable.
The City of Simpsonville is prepared to face any challenges posed by COVID – 19 head on through decisive leadership, planning, sensible action steps and cooperation with federal, state and local authorities.
Administration and City Council also recognize that the best solutions for a community-wide problem is a community-wide response.
The City is asking residents to follow all safety precautions prescribed by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, which include the following:
• Clean your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are unavailable, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol by covering all surfaces of your hands and rubbing them together until they feel dry. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. • Avoid close contact with people who are sick and put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. • Stay home if you are sick except to get medical care. • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow • Wear a facemask if you are sick • If you are not sick, you do not need to wear a face mask unless you are caring for someone who is sick and cannot wear a facemask; facemasks are in short supply and should be saved for caregivers and healthcare providers • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily Visit www.simpsonville.com and follow @Simpsonville on Facebook for regular updates on the City of Simpsonville’s response to COVID-19.
