An Anderson man accused of murdering his mother has claimed self defense.
Deputies responded to a domestic altercation call at around 10:15 Sunday night on Towhee Trail where they found a woman dead at the scene.
Detectives and Forensic Investigators found Celeste Lowie had been choked to death by her son, Nafis N Mena.
Mena was consequently arrested and charged with murder.
At a bond hearing on Wednesday, Mena claimed self-defense and said that he was a victim of "witchcraft."
Mena told the judge that his mother tried to attack him with a knife and as he was trying to secure the weapon, he put her in a "choke hold."
The judge denied bond. Mena will be speaking with a mental health representative

Released by the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
