
Update (4:45 P.M., July 17):
The driver of the motorcycle has been identified by the Cherokee County Coroner as 26-year-old Richard Dillon Earl Smith of Gaffney.
He was the driver of the motorcycle and died on impact.
The crash occured Thursday night when a Dodge pick-up truck attempted to cross over U.S. Highway 221 along Hawkins-Reynolds Road.
Smith, who was not wearing a helmet, struck the truck on its right front and died on the scene.
Cherokee County Coronor Dennis Fowler said an autopsy has been scheduled to help in the investigation of the accident.

Cherokee County Motorcycle crash kills Rider...
Coroner Dennis Fowler says the rider of a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle heading South on highway 221 in Cherokee County around 10:40pm Thursday night, crashed with a Dodge pick up while its driver attempted to cross over Highway 221 from Hawkins-Reynolds Road.
The Rider hit the trucks right front.
The male victim was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. No identification was found on his person.
Fowler says fingerprints and identifiable body marks will be used to make a positive ID in addition to an autopsy.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
Fowler added the motorcycle involved in the crash was reported stolen from Spartanburg last February.
The Coroner's Office and Highway Patrol are still investigating the crash.
