According to a Facebook post, the scammer pretends to be an employee of the sheriff's office and falsely claims that the victm has missed a registration appointment.

The scammers then say fines must be paid to avoid issuing a warrant.

The ACSO warned not to be fooled by the scammers and to refrain from giving them any information or money.

They reminded that "if something in a phone call, text, or email sounds fishy, it probably is."
