
Greenville County Sheriff's Deputies made a traffic stop on a 2019 Kia around 4:30pm Tuesday in the Piedmont community.
According to Lt. Jimmy Bolt with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Deputies originally conducted the stop for a traffic violation on Stables Road near Sagittarius Way.
The driver, attempting to elude law enforcement according to Cpl. Matt Southern with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, then took off southbound on Davis Road.
Cpl. Matt Southern reports the driver of the Kia then disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of SC 20, Piedmont Highway, and was struck by a GMC SUV.
The driver of the GMC and a passenger in the Kia were transported to Prisma Health for injuries.
The driver of the Kia, identified by the Greenville County Coroner as 35 year old Nicholas Lee Holmes of Greenville, died while in route to the hospital.
None of the victims were wearing a seatbelt.
The crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team, MAIT.
