Classes at the University of South Carolina will resume in the fall on August 20th.
USC's President Bob Caslen along with the Future Planning Group and Office of the Provost are in full agreement to begin the Fall Semester with face-to-face classes.
But, in a letter to students, faculty and staff, Caslen did say there will be TWO major changes to the academic calendar.
First, there will be NO Fall Break which was scheduled October 15-16. Classes will be held those days.
Caslen said its' cancellation is to reduce the spread of Coronavirus because "the public health risks associated with thousands of students and faculty returning to campus after Fall Break travels could be significant for the campus..."
Second, remote learning will be reinstated after the Thanksgiving Break which is scheduled November 25-29. Caslen says "our best current modeling predicts a spike in cases of COVID-19 at the beginning of December,"
All exams and tests will be taken via remote learning. As for December Commencement, those details are still being worked out.
The University of South Carolina continues to work with the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to closely monitor Coronavirus, outbreak and potential impact to the campus community.
All Campus events have been cancelled through the end of the Spring semester. May Commencement ceremonies have been tentatively rescheduled for August 7-8. Ceremonies for the Schools of Medicine in Columbia and Greenville have yet to be determined.
The University has set up a 24/7 Coronavirus Phone Bank, 803-576-8511.
Main hours Monday through Friday 9am-4pm
