University of South Carolina athletic alumni have called for the renaming of the Strom Thurmond Fitness Center.
The fitness center is currently named after Strom Thurmond, a military officer and senator who passed away in 2003.
He was opposed to the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and other civil rights legislation during the 1960s.
The petition was started by USC graduate Heather Armel earlier this month following the death of George Floyd
It has since gained vocal support from several other USC alumni athletes including Alshon Jeffery and Marcus Lattimore.
