A Greenville woman struck by a suspected drunk driver Friday night, has died. The Greenville County Coroner's Office was notified Sunday by Greenville Health System of the death of 79 year-old Virginia Byrne of Greenville.
Bryne was struck by a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup just after 8PM while crossing S. Main St. and was transported to Greenville Trauma center where she died.
David Robert Lee of Central was arrested on the scence by Greenville City Police. The arresting officer said Lee admitted to drinking but declined to take a breathalyzer test. Lee has been charged with DUI first offense.
Lee is an associate director of the Public Relations, Outreach, Media Opportunities offfice of the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences at Clemson University.
This incident remains under investigation of the Greenville City Police Department and the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
