Greenville County School District Director of Communications Beth Brotherton issued the following press release Monday.

A total of 64 Palmetto gold and silver designations were awarded to Greenville County Schools today is when the State Department of Education released the 2018 and 2019 recognitions. The 2018 awards were delayed while the State Board of Education and Education Oversight Committee determined criteria for the distinction based on the new State Report Cards.  The newly revamped cards were first released in November of 2018. The 2019 report cards were released last week.

Palmetto Gold and Silver designations are awarded to South Carolina schools for academic achievement and student progress.  To be eligible to receive a Palmetto Golf or Silver designation, an elementary or middle school cannot be designated as a Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school or an Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) school and must receive a rating for the indicators of Academic Achievement and Student Progress as defined below:

Palmetto Gold:

Excellent Academic Achievement and Excellent Student Progress, or Excellent Academic Achievement and Good Student Progress, or Good Academic Achievement and Excellent Student Progress

Palmetto Silver:

Average Academic Achievement and Excellent Student Progress, or Good Academic Achievement and Good Student Progress, or Excellent Academic Achievement and Average Student Progress

At the high school level, the criteria for Palmetto Gold and Silver focuses on Academic Achievement, Preparing for Success, Graduation Rate, and College/Career Readiness.  To be eligible, a high school must not be designated as a Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) school or an Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) school and must meet the following criteria:

Palmetto Gold: An excellent rating in 3 out of the 4 indicators, a minimum of Good on the fourth indicator, and an overall report card rating of Excellent or Good.

Palmetto Silver: A minimum rating of Good on 3 out of the 4 indicators, and no rating lower than Average on the fourth indicator, and an overall report card rating of Average or above.
