The South Carolina Republican Party issued the following statement Friday.
(Columbia, S.C.) – Last night the Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced the celebration of President Trump’s re-nomination will take place in Jacksonville, F.L.
After N.C. Governor Roy Cooper refused to guarantee this event could be held in Charlotte, N.C. the committee was forced to look elsewhere.
While the pre-convention business will still take place in Charlotte, once it’s taken care of, everyone will make the trip down to Florida to re-nominate President Trump and celebrate.
See below for RNC Committeeman Glenn McCall, SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick, and RNC Committeewoman Cindy Costa's statements on the convention:
“N.C. Governor Roy Cooper didn’t want the City of Charlotte to receive the infusion of over $200 million dollars in its local economy,” said RNC Committeeman and Chairman of the Budget Committee Glenn McCall. “Jacksonville and the state of Florida are welcoming the RNC Convention goers with open arms and are grateful for the money that’s coming with us.”
“We’re excited to re-nominate President Trump in Jacksonville–and excited to do it in a state with a governor that doesn’t sacrifice local businesses in order to look good with his liberal base,” said SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick. “Charlotte’s loss is Jacksonville’s gain.”
“After months of working with the Governor of North Carolina, it became clear we didn’t have the framework to proceed with a convention that we wanted to host for our presidential candidate,” said RNC Committeewoman Cindy Costa. “We felt we were being manipulated by the governor and that he was using the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse. Unfortunately, his state will lose millions of dollars desperately needed for economic recovery at this time.”
Tomorrow, June 13 the SCGOP will hold its virtual state convention to choose its delegates for the RNC Convention. Those voted to serve as S.C. national delegates will attend the national convention and help nominate our President in Jacksonville.
