Spartanburg County deputies responded to a shooting at a home at 2577 Old Furnace Road Tuesday night around 8:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered three juveniles in the yard who were quickly moved to a safe location.

Later, while Police were establishing a scene perimeter, a female gunshot victim walked out of the residence and was transported by EMS to the hospital.

Spartanburg County’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Units responded to the scene after information, obtained by deputies from the juveniles and the female victim, indicated another female was inside the house who had also been shot along with the male shooter.

After a lengthy negation attempt failed to receive any response from inside the house, the SWAT team made a forcible entry into the residence.

Inside the house a male and female with gunshot wounds were discovered.

The suspected male shooter, 52-year-old Darryl Jones, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the female gunshot victim was still breathing and transported to the hospital.

The current medical status of both females are currently unknown.

The case remains an active investigation, but police believe Jones shot both females and then took his own life.

Kevin Bobo, the Public Information Officer for the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, said in a press release Wednesday that despite what was reported by some media outlets, none of their officers on the scene ever discharged a weapon.

Bobo says the sounds people heard were from the deployment of either tear gas or flash bangs.
