More than 500 University of South Carolina students and loved ones of Samantha Josephson came out on Sunday for a candlelight prayer vigil to pay their respects, to remember, and to honor the life of the 21-year-old who was described as being a positive light during all of her tragically short life.

Samantha was praised for her ability to balance her ambition with her love for her friends and family.

The South Carolina senior was set to go to law school at Drexel University after her upcoming graduation from college in May, although she still managed to have a strong social life, as well as a loving relationship with her boyfriend Greg Corbishley.

Greg was one of many who spoke at Sunday night’s vigil, saying Samantha’s positive energy will help keep him to go on living the rest of his life. He said the last words she said to him was that she was grateful she was able to be herself around him, and he was thankful that she brought that out in him too.

Samantha’s father also spoke at the vigil, imploring the students gathered to be cautious and to stay safe.

Samantha was killed Thursday night after she mistakenly got into a vehicle she thought was her Uber ride.

The driver of that car, 24-year-old Nathanial David Rowland, has been charged with her murder.
