The US Drug Enforcement Administration is hosting National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, October 24.
Take Back Day is typically held twice per year: once in the spring and once in the fall.
According to a release, Take Back Day is meant to encourage the public to safely turn in expired, unused, or unwanted prescription drugs at designated collection sites.
According to the Take Back Day website, the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs, most of which were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
