Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says a Gaffney man killed Sunday afternoon when a tree fell on him. Fowler identified the victim as Bobby Wayne Bradley, Sr. 73, of 884 Potter Road.
“Mr. Bradley was working with a chain saw in a wooded area at the rear of his residence about 2 p.m. when the incident occurred. He had fallen a large tree which jarred the ground causing another nearby large tree to give way at its rotted roots. That tree fell on top of Mr. Bradley trapping him between it and the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene,“ Fowler said.
Mr. Bradley was discovered by his wife just moments after the incident.
Fowler urged residents to be cautious when cutting trees or limbs noting the ground is very saturated now due to recent heavy rain which can cause shallow rooted or rotten trees to fall without warning. It is best to leave this type work to the professionals who are familiar with how to handle trees safely.
Fowler says an autopsy will be performed Monday to assist with his investigation into the tragic death.
