The Greenville City Council Monday evening unanimously approved an extension on the mask ordinance that requires citizens to wear masks in various locations within the City of Greenville.
The ordinance, which requires citizens to wear masks in certain businesses within the city, was extended for an additional 61 days.
The previous ordinance would have expired before the next city council meeting if not voted on Monday night.
The ordinance requires individuals to wear masks at grocery stores, pharmacies, commercial and retail stores, and laundromats, as well salons, barber shops, and spas.
Failure to comply with the ordinance can result in civil infraction and up to a $25 fine. Employees of these businesses who do not comply with the ordinance will receive a civil infraction as well and up to a $100 fine.
The Spartanburg City Council approved a 60-day extension on their mask ordinance as well. Both ordinances follow similar regulations.
