The box a bank bandit claimed contained a bomb turned out to be empty, and the man accused of using it to holdup the Wells Fargo office on North Main in Anderson is behind bars.
The robber wearing a medical mask walked away from the bank shortly after 1 PM Tuesday afternoon. City police caught up with the suspect, identified as 59-year old James Robert Simmons Jr., about 5:30 at Anderson Mall. He's charged with bank robbery and the bomb threat.
