Another arrest has been made in a dogfighting investigation in North Georgia, as authorities expand their search into a neighboring county.
Late last month, the Hart County Sheriff's Office uncovered a dogfighting operation off Jim Heard Road. We previously reported, 26 people were arrested and charged with dogfighting and felony cruelty to animals.
On Thursday, the Sheriff's Office announced another arrest. 57-year-old Tony Andre Hopps of Dade City, Florida. 7 dogs, 1 puppy and 3 deceased dogs were recovered during the October operation.
The investigation has since expanded into Elbert County, where authorities executed another search warrant Tuesday at a residence associated with someone previously arrested in the Hart County case.
13 dogs and 5 puppies were seized from that property. The animals are now in the custody of Hart County Animal Control.
The investigation remains active, and additional arrests or charges are possible.
