Another candidate has thrown their hat into the ring in the race for Spartanburg County Sheriff.
Retired state trooper and former Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputy Bill Rhyne has announced their candidacy in the special election later this year to replace former Spartanburg Sheriff Chuck Wright.
Wright resigned from the position of Sheriff following an extended leave of absence. His letter of resignation cited a medical diagnosis, though State Senator Josh Kimbrell claims the former Sheriff is under multiple investigations.
In a press release announcing his candidacy, Rhyne said “This campaign isn’t about politics. It’s about people. It’s about making sure our communities are safe, heard, and respected. It’s about being present, well-reasoned in our actions, and building a Sheriff’s Office that truly serves every corner of Spartanburg County.”
This brings the total number of candidates in the race up to five, including former investigator Nick Duncan, Captain Randy Hollifield, and former software administrator Andy Clark, all of which currently or previously worked for the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, and Pacolet Police Chief Joseph Hawes.
The special election is set for November 4th, with early voting running from October 20th through the 31st. Before that, the primary for the special election is set for August 5th, with early voting open between July 21st and August 1st. If a runoff is needed, it will take place on August 19th with early voting open between August 13th through August 15th.
