An Asheville man has been sentenced to prison after a fatal stabbing there, over three years ago. The Buncombe County District Attorney's Office says, Devone James Jr. entered a guilty plea to a charge of voluntary manslaughter, earlier this week.

The charge comes after the Asheville Police Department responded to a reported stabbing to an apartment complex in July of 2020.

Investigators say a fight started when a knife was pointed at James by 43 year old, Trevor Ridge. James knocked Ridge to the ground, grabbed the knife and stabbed him in the chest. Ridge died from injuries suffered in the incident.

The exact length of the prison sentence for James has not yet been set. He is set to serve a minimum of 4 years and faces a max sentence of nearly 7 years ago.
